No Stress: How GoBe Helps You Relax (and Maybe See the Broad Picture)

You live under constant pressure. You deal with enormous amounts of stress: work issues, relationships, housing, money, even proper relaxation causes us stress. These all in turn lead to health issues, thus causing more stress. Unfortunately, we only realize this when we are not stressed and in a state of complete tranquility and calmness. What is Stress?
People have been using the word 'stress' for so long that we believe it is time to make things clear. Stress is your body's reaction to something called a stressor which can be any internal (psychological, etc.) or external (environmental, etc.) condition. In humans, stress is usually associated with negative conditions that induce heart attacks, ulcers, or mental illnesses.
All stress isn't bad. There's good stress and bad stress. The former is called eustress and the latter distress (both introduced by Hans Selye in 1946). Eustress (or positive stress) appears when you experience positive emotions and mild stressors. This kind of stress mobilizes and activates your body to help you cope with the arising challenges: you become more alert, more attentive, focused, confident, and your memory gets better. This is your so-called 'fight' mode.
Distress, on the other hand, or negative stress (commonly known as stress) takes place when the stressors are too aggressive and/or too enduring. This causes your thinking processes to slow down, and your sense of humor (if any) less acute. The longer the negative effect, the more chances of distress becoming chronic. Thus causing strain in the heart and stomach.
The eustress symptoms are:
- Heart acceleration—upto 90-100 bpm
- Insignificant arterial blood pressure build-up
- Flushed skin
- Increased depth of breathing
- Slight fever
The distress symptoms are:
- Heart acceleration—over 100 bpm
- Significant arterial blood pressure build-up (or drop)
- Skin pigmentation
- Breathing acceleration
There is no way you can turn the distress into eustress, but you definitely can control it.
How GoBe tracks your Stress
The Healbe GoBe Body Manager estimates your stress level once an hour by checking on your heart rate. Then, through the complex analysis of your sleep quality data and anthropometrical parameters like weight, height, sex and age, it helps you track your stress level. In the Healbe app you will see an hourly diagram with your stress level for the last 24 hours. This diagram will have explained level titles and specifically marked sections with no data gathered.

The Healbe GoBe Body Manager helps you understand the level of stress you are currently under and aids you in coping with that stress. The device is not able to tell whether you are experiencing eustress or distress, but you may be able to decipher between the two by familiarizing yourself with the symptoms of each. And if it happens to be distress? Well, there are lots of ways to manage your distress. Techniques range from breathing exercises, getting enough sleep and eating healthy, to having enough sex, traveling and visiting your psychiatrist- especially if your stress level stays at 4-5 for more than several days in a row. It hardly needs mentioning that alcohol is not good when it comes to coping with your high stress levels. It dehydrates the body and affects sleep so eventually you are even more stressed than before.
