Why Healbe GoBe™ Uses Bluetooth® LE to Connect with Your Smartphone
When we set out to create a new kind of wearable device, we knew we couldn’t simply give consumers more of what was already out there. GoBe is the only wearable device that uses information from your own body to give you insights on calorie intake and burn, activity, hydration, stress, sleep, heart rate, and blood pressure—with no manual logging of meals and activities. What’s more, GoBe delivers everything you need to know to manage your whole-body health to your smartphone, effortlessly.
It’s a tall order, and one of the challenges we faced in designing the Original 100% Automatic Body Manager was this: How could we combine all these advanced technologies in one small device, while maximizing usability? We knew that it wasn’t enough for GoBe to tell you everything you need to know for whole-body health—it also has to be easy to use every day.
That's why we choose Bluetooth 4.0, also known as Bluetooth Low Energy, to enable communication between the automatic body manager and the GoBe smartphone app. The main differences between Bluetooth 4.0 and all formerly known wireless technologies are the data rate and the level of energy consumption. Bluetooth 4.0 allows GoBe to synchronize with your smartphone in under 0.005 seconds, maintaining this connection over a distance of up to 2 meters, or over 6 feet!. This version of Bluetooth also includes an updated error correction system, increasing the accuracy of data transferred.
How does Bluetooth LE work?
With Bluetooth LE, microscopic sensors built into the GoBe automatic body manager are activated only when sending data to your smartphone, while powering down between transmissions. This saves energy for both the automatic body manager and your smartphone. At the moment, thanks to Bluetooth LE, GoBe can run for up to 3 days in normal mode without recharging. Bluetooth LE technology has become very popular over the last few years.
